Current Exhibition: Creation and Co-Existence:The Respectful Interdependence of All That Is
Featurning Artists Akemi Nakano Cohn & Lindsay Obermeyer
"Creation and Co-Existence: The Respectful Interdependence of All That Is" features the work of artists Akemi Nakano Cohn and Lindsay Obermeyer.
Writes Curator Janis Pozzi-Johnson:
"Chicagoarea artists Akemi Nakano Cohn and Lindsay Obermeyer both work with imagery that beckons us to our prairie habitat.
With intricately designed beaded flowers placed in scientific glass beakers, Lindsay presents flowers and grasses now rarely seen in, what were once, the beautifully appointed, vast prairie lands. As the artist works and slides each bead into place, she “offer(s) a prayer for the prairie’s ongoing future”. Lindsay’s sensitive work addresses the very fragile eco-system and its well-being.
Akemi is interested in the interaction between and inter-connectedness of plants, animals, and humans, and the traces left behind from this interaction. Employing a traditional Japanese printing technique, the artist creates colorful hangings of a memory-induced magical world where plants, animals, and humans respectfully co-exist."
"Creation and Co-Existence" opens Wednesday, June 22, 2011 with a reception and artists' talk at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit will be open through September 14, 2011.
